Zaidhan Mohamed (19), an officer at Maldives Police Service, who stands accused of blackmailing his former partner and threatening to leak her nude pictures destroyed evidence relating to the case, Police told the court today.
Zaidhan, who was stationed at Mathiveri Police Station, was first arrested on 14th November on blackmail charges. Upon the end of his initial remand, he was presented to the Criminal Court today, where an additional 10 day remand order was issued.
The court order said that police have submitted sufficient evidence against Zaidhan over the blackmail accusations, including investigation statements as well as additional proof and evidence.
It further said that police submitted sufficient evidence that he leaked his former partner's photographs and blackmailed her.
"Police allege that [he] destroyed his phone and evidence, and some evidence to support this claim has been submitted," the court order detailed.
The defence also requested bail by offering a guarantor. However the court ruled that the application form was incomplete and that no documents were submitted to support that the conditions were met. As such, the court said that a revised decision would be considered once complete documentation is provided.
