Civil Aviation Authority said that commenting has been open since August 15, with the deadline slated to be October 15.
The CAA will be accepting comments from the public, government entities, companies and organizations. Recommendations to be included in the regulations can be submitted with justification, they said.
They said that opinions are welcome from those who use drones for commercial and advertising purposes.
The new regulations are to be formed with Europe's regulations used as a basis.
Civil Aviation Authority said that the implementation of this regulation would allow for drones to be used for entertainment and commercial needs.
Once the regulation is passed, geographical zones will be determined. These will include zones where drones are prohibited, zones where prior permission for use of drones is required, and zones where drones can be freely used without the need for prior permission.
In addition to this, the regulations will see a registry of drone users compiled, and stipulate the skills required of users.
The Civil Aviation Authority sets guidelines for civil air transport, hence the regulations for military drones will be set by the Maldives National Defence Force.
