The twelve men arrested for holding a man hostage and trying to cut off his finger in a Fiyaa Flat apartment in Hulhumalé's Phase 2 have been released from custody, and their cases have been sent to the Prosecutor General's Office (PGO) for prosecution.

Police said they had requested the prosecutor's office on Saturday to prosecute the accused. However, all the arrested persons have been released by the court, police said.

They were arrested last month for kidnapping and torturing a man in the H9-20-11 apartment of the Hiyaa Flat. By the time Police managed to locate the victim and rescue him, the perpetrators had shaved off his head and were in the process of chopping his finger off. The man was rescued in a major police operation.
Since then another four people were arrested yesterday for using and dealing drugs in the apartment.
Police said four people were arrested with drugs and a large amount of cash in a search of the apartment yesterday under a Criminal Court order.
Those arrested yesterday include Ibrahim Shareef, Abdulla Hassan, Hussain Riyaz and Abdulla Jameel.
