Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has said that four employees of the company remain on suspension in relation to the corruption cases raised against the company.
A number of employees of HDC were suspended last December regarding a case of corruption involved in issuing land plots under the Binveriya housing scheme. They were then dismissed from their positions, and later reinstated and placed back on suspension.
However, suspension of some of the staff members have been lifted now after the criminal investigation into the matter.
An HDC Official said today that in total, 17 employees had been initially suspended. Of these, three have since been dismissed.
Although HDC did not disclose the details of these employees, Mihaaru News reports that HDC's Chief Financial Officer Abdulla Fayid alone has been dismissed.
As Chief Business Officer and Media Department Head Ahmed Yaamin and IT Consultant Abdulla Shuhoodh were working at HDC on contract basis, they lost their positions with HDC deciding not to renew the contracts.
Yaamin was appointed as Chief Business Officer on December 2023 on a one year contract, with his contract coming to an end last December. In contrast to former HDC Managing Director Ibrahim Fazul Rasheed's decision, the current management decided not to renew Yaamin's contract. Yaamin has since lodged the matter at the Labour Tribunal.
The HDC Official further said that ten employees have returned to work after their suspension was lifted. With this, four employees currently remain on suspension.
