COVID-19: Over 80 individuals refuse quarantine after testing positive

Health Emergency Operations Centre (HEOC), on Saturday, revealed that 89 individuals had refused to be placed under quarantine at government facilities after testing positive for COVID-19

As of 1800 hrs on Saturday, HEOC noted that a total of 194 persons were awaiting their transfer to the alloted quarantine facility.

However, authorities also stated that 33 individual failed to respond to efforts made to reach out them, after having tested postive.

A further 18 persons were, at the time, still awaiting the test results of their relatives,

During the nighly press conference, HEOC also announced a restriction of vehicular movements within the Greater Male' Region from 2000 hrs till 0500 hrs.

However, Police noted that the prohibition would be exclusive to vehicular movements and will not impact normal curfew hours. Regular curfew hours are currently limited to 2200 hrs till 0500 hrs.

The island nation now records total 6,660 confirmed and 2,521 active COVID-19 cases, along with 4,113 recoveries and 26 deaths.

The number of COVID-19 cases skyrocketed after the state initiated efforts to steer the country towards a 'new normal' with the phased easing of lockdown restrictions across the Greater Male' Region. As one of the most densely populated cities in the world, Maldives' capital Malé continues to record a significant number of COVID-19 cases, similar to the first weeks following the first confirmed local transmission on April 15.
