Uligan Council has re-announced for residents to collect dates gifted by Saudi Arabia for Ramadan, after the initial announcement saw limited response.
The council stated today that 13 packets of dates are left to be collected and urged households to claim them. Uligan, which has a population of around 400, received a total of 18 packets for distribution.
The Councill said that one member from each household wishing to collect the dates must visit the council office between 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. on weekdays, from tomorrow until next Sunday, with a copy of their ID card and electricity meter number.
The distribution will be conducted in accordance with regulations set by the Ministry of Islamic Affairs in first come first serve order until the remaining packets have all been distributed.
Saudi Arabia has donated 50 tonnes of dates to Maldives this year.
Islamic Ministry said that 11,375 packets had been distributed to 46,251 households in Male' region, while 10,788 packets to be distributed to 56,461 households had been sent to councils across the country.
