The week after the Public Health Emergency regarding COVID-19 Pandemic had been revoked, 2,300 people test positive for COVID-19 in the Maldives. However, there has been only 665 confirmed cases of the virus over the past week.
Health Protection Agency (HPA) said that from the 27th of last month to last Saturday, 72 people have tested positive in Male' and 481 people from different islands.
The number of COVID-19 cases in Male' city has been declining significantly. The total number of positive cases recorded on Friday was 6 and on Saturday it was 7.
While the number of cases has rapidly declined, the number of people being tested for the virus has also decreased. The sample positive rate in the Maldives is currently at 11 percent; 4 percent in the Greater Male' Region.
Last Saturday, 18 cases were reported from different islands. The number of positive cases from islands have remained stagnant over the past two weeks.
The government lifted the state of public health emergency declared two years ago following the control of COVID-19. Therefore, all measures have been eased. Statistics released by HPA on March 14 to 26 shows a record of 2,342 positive cases since the easing of restrictions. They include 184 people from the Greater Male' Region and 1,938 people from different islands.
