President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has pledged to provide housing and an allowance for the families of martyrs.
The President announced this during the ceremony held last night at Dharubaaruge to mark this year's Victory Day.
President Muizzu said that while 8 MNDF officers and 11 civilians had passed away in the November 3 attacks, and in the past forty years, 29 MNDF officers, and 2 Police officers had passed away in the line of duty, their service had remain unfortunately unrecognized by subsequent governments.
He noted how earlier an allowance had been granted to families of martyrs, but that, too, had later been discontinued.
He announced that the families of the November 3 martyrs, five individuals who received the Medal for Exceptional Bravery, and ten individuals who received the Medal for Bravery will be granted a special allowance for their lifetime.
He also pledged that housing will be provided under a scheme titled 'Shaheedhunge Hiyaa', although it has not yet been disclosed where the units will be located.
The President recognized that any form of appreciation for the martyr's bravery and sacrifice shown by the government cannot compensate for the loss of the families.
