President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that development of Boduthakurufaanu Magu - the marine drive of capital Male' City - will be commenced after Ramadan concludes.

Under this project, tar will be laid on the parts of the road that currently are paved.

Tar was laid over a large part of Boduthakurufaanu Magu during the administration of former President Abdulla Yameen. However, the area from Hulhumale' Ferry Terminal to Rasfannu remains paved.

Speaking at the inauguration of Izzudheen Jetty last night, President Muizzu said that the road development project would be commenced after Ramadan. The work will be conducted by MTCC.

The development of the road will include setting two lanes going in each direction, and will include the area from Hulhumale' Ferry Terminal to the Local Market.

In order to widen the street to accommodate the additional lanes, part of the lagoon will be reclaimed through sheet piling, the President said.

The government has also decided to build a new fish market where the Local Market currently stands. Additionally, the harbour will be shifted to Gulhi Falhu, with the north harbour slated for redevelopment.
