In response to former President Solih's declaration that President Muizzu had not lived up to his word in continuing MDP's projects, MTCC's CEO, Ziyad shot back, alleging that those projects were begun for political reasons without any repayment plans.
CEO of Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), Abdulla Ziyad has fired a heated comeback at former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, stating that his administration had launched developmental projects for political purposes without any access to funds.
Speaking at a Maldives Democratic Party (MDP) campaign meeting in Shaviyani Atoll Maaungoodhoo last Saturday, former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih said that this government has discontinued nearly all the projects launched by the former administration, specially in local atolls.
The former President had reiterated President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s vow to continue all projects begun during MDP’s governance amid the presidential campaigns last year and accused him of proceeding directly opposite to his word.
Ziyad shot back at Solih's allegations, stating that these projects were launched in local islands for political reasons with no access to a repayment method.
“They had the companies that supply the projects supply the materials under credit without a plan for repaying the credit,” he further stated on a Facebook post.
While Ziyad had previously maintained that the financial state of MTCC was very poor when this administration assumed control of the company, he stated today that the former government had further acquired oil on credit under the guise of running the projects as well and that the person responsible for descending MTCC into such deficiency is former President Solih.
“So, don’t try making headlines now after making the blunder,” Ziyad stated.
Speaking to journalists last Wednesday, Ziyad had stated that when this administration began and a new management took over the company, MTCC has a debt of MVR 954 million owed to external parties alongside an unsettled payment of MVR 1.7 billion owed to the company .
He stated that some projects have been halted as a result of some actions of the former government.
Stating that measures are presently being taken to identify and address the problem, Ziyad further maintained that audit reports are being drafted on these matters found to be of harm to the company.
