Maldivian Airlines' A330 arrives from Chengdu with 180 tourists

The Airbus A330 is equipped with 260 seats across Business, Premium Economy, and Economy classes. It also boasts a cargo capacity of 10 tonnes and can undertake long-haul flights without transit.

The first flight of Maldivian Airlines' new wide-body Airbus A330 arrived in the Maldives from Chengdu, China, this morning carrying 180 tourists.

The flight had a total of 192 passengers on board, which is 70 percent of the aircraft’s capacity.

With a total capacity of 260 seats, the A330 offers seating across Business, Premium Economy, and Economy classes. The flight also carried 10 tonnes of cargo.

In addition to Chengdu, the Airbus A330 is set to operate flights to Beijing and Shanghai. Flights to Beijing will begin tomorrow and flights to Shanghai will operate from January 27.

Island Aviation’s Managing Director, Ibrahim Iyas, said that demand for flights to China has exceeded expectations, and he expects full-capacity flights on the upcoming routes.

Last year, Maldives welcome 250,000 tourists from China, making it the second-largest tourist source market for the country. So far this year, 15,800 Chinese tourists have already arrived in the country.

Return tickets to the Airbus A330’s first destination, Chengdu, is priced at USD 688 (MVR 10,610). Additional routes include Beijing, starting January 24, with return tickets priced at USD 788 (MVR 12,151), and Shanghai, beginning January 27, at USD 777 (MVR 11,981).
