People have begun protesting inside the Ministry of Housing, Land, and Urban Development over the delays in the publication of the flat lists allocated under the government's Gedhoruveriyaa housing scheme.

The publication of the list, which had previously been given multiple deadlines, was expected before the end of last week. However, the ministry released a press release yesterday stating that the publication of the flat list has been postponed indefinitely.

Many people have gathered near the building where the ministry is operating. Videos circulating show some people entering the ministry building to express their dissatisfaction.

Protesters are calling for full accountability for the delay in the publication of the flat list.

The ministry said in its press release yesterday that the list of beneficiaries for the 4,000 flats under the Gedhoruveriyaa scheme is being reviewed on the advice of the Housing Advisory Committee and the Housing Consultative Committee, which were formed on the advice of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu.

The previous government had stated that 18,167 out of 20,697 people who applied for the flats were eligible. However, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) following a two month investigation said that 60 percent of the 4,000 people on the permanent list had not met the eligibility criteria.
