Ministry of Housing, Land, and Urban Development said that it aims to finalize the flat list for the Gendhoruveriya Scheme by the second week of November.

Housing Minister Dr Ali Haider previously stated that the list would undergo a review, with the final version to be released by the end of this month. However, the ministry announced today that the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) requires additional time to complete the list.

A previous complaint alleging corruption in the list compilation process under the former administration prompted the current government to establish the Housing Advisory and Consultative Committees under the directive of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu to resolve the issue.

In its statement, the ministry noted that the committee found issues with the compilation of the original list. The ministry has initiated a re evaluation of all applications submitted under the scheme.

“The ministry has started re-evaluation of all application forms submitted under the scheme,” the ministry said in a statement.

ACC had halted the allocation of flats after the government released a permanent list of recipients two days before the end of former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's term. Following a two-month investigation, the ACC found that 60 percent of the 4,000 listed recipients had not met the eligibility criteria, with only 20.7 percent of the recipients devoid of any faults, while 19.7 percent had misinformation in their forms despite passing the criteria.

After an investigation into a number of complaints submitted to the commission regarding the flat list, the commission said 60 percent of the 4,000 flat recipients were ineligible. A new committee was formed and the government began reviewing the list after major issues emerged.

Under the Gedhoruveriyaa scheme, 32 towers, each 17-18 storeys high, are being constructed in Hulhumalé Phase 2. Each floor will have eight apartments, totaling 1,200 two-room apartments and 2,800 three-room apartments.

Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation (FDC), the developer of the towers, announced that all towers are scheduled for completion by mid-2025.
