State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) has signed an agreement with Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) to install two 80,000-litre fuel tanks in Hulhumale' in preparation for the peak electricity demand during the hot season.
Every year, electricity consumption rises during the Iruvai monsoon, which is the hot and dry season, leading to higher bills and occasional power outages.

An agreement was signed yesterday to install the tanks at Hulhumale' Power House Annex 2, with STELCO’s managing director, Hussain Fahmy, signing on behalf of the company and MTCC’s CEO and managing director, Ahmed Saudee, signing on behalf of MTCC.

Meanwhile, President Mohamed Muizzu has announced a 10 percent discount on electricity bills for Ramadan, which was also provided during last Ramadan as well.
