A boat from Panama is scheduled to dock at Maldives Economic Gateway (Ihavandhippolhu) on Thursday to seek bunkering services.

Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) Managing Director Mohamed Wajeeh Ibrahim said in a post on social media platform Facebook today that an oil products tanker registered in Panama will be arriving at Ihavandhippolhu for bunkering services on Thursday. Alongside water bunkering, the boat has applied for additional services as well, he said.

This is the second boat to seek bunkering services since it was launched on September 18.

The services sought by the boat from Panama are:

- pilot services

- clean drinking water supply

- crew change (This involves arranging transfer of 6 crew members flying in to Velana International Airport (VIA) to the boat docked in Haa Alif atoll, and arranging transfer to VIA for 9 crew members who will be leaving the boat. Although the total number of crew members is at 15 now, this could increase)

- supply of food

- supply of spare parts

Wajeeh said that besides MPL, private businesses will also be involved in providing the requested services.

"As per the schedule, the boat may be docked at Ihavandhippolhu for about five days as it requires some maintenance work as well. If this happens, the residents of the area will get further trade opportunities," Wajeeh said.
