Parliament has decided to not hold sittings during the last third of Ramadan, starting today.

Speaker of Parliament Abdul Raheem Abdulla announced yesterday that parliament sittings will resume from April 7 onwards, which is after the Fitr Eid holidays.

Abdul Raheem appealed to parliamentarians to be exemplary individuals for the public even during the holy days of the last ten days of Ramadan.

Parliament earlier planned to go into recess during Ramadan, but reverted the decision after public criticism.

The last third of Ramadan has been declared holidays for government offices as well. Government offices will reopen after the Fitr Eid holidays, on April 6.
