Police have revealed that Hussain Areesh, the man arrested today for attacking another individual with a hammer near IGMH, has a total of 26 criminal records.
Areesh, 31, a resident of Fuvahmulah, was apprehended at Velana International Airport after being denied entry into Malaysia and deported back to Maldives.
Authorities had issued an arrest warrant for him prior to his departure from the country.
According to the police, Areesh has a history of involvement in serious crimes in Male', including:
- 15 cases of violence
- 6 cases related to drugs
- 3 cases of property damage
- 2 cases involving violence with sharp objects
Police have identified him as a key figure in multiple criminal activities in the capital.
On the night of February 4, when Areesh and another individual attacked a man near IGMH. The victim was struck on the head with a hammer by the person sitting behind the motorcycle the attackers were riding.
A police officer near IGMH responded immediately, but the attackers managed to flee. They initially attempted to escape on their motorcycle, but when it failed to start, they fled on foot.
