Senior Economist at the Ministry of Finance, Mohamed Zayan Ahmed, has submitted his resignation.

Zayan has been leading the Finance and Fiscal Department since 2023 and previously worked as a Fiscal Consultant and Policy Expert.

He also represents the Finance Ministry on the Board of Maldives Central Bank, Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA).

Mihaaru News reports that Zayan has given two months' notice for his resignation.

While the exact reasons for his resignation remain unclear, sources suggest that arises from disagreements over certain economic and financial measures currently being taken.

His resignation comes amid MMA’s efforts to raise funds for the government, including discussions on generating revenue through sale of land in Hulhumale'.

It is learned that ongoing talks involve the Finance Ministry and have considered various figures, including MVR 8 billion, MVR 14 billion, and MVR 20 billion. However, the exact amount is still unclear, and it's uncertain whether the MMA board has approved the plan.

Major decisions regarding the purchase are expected to be finalized after a board meeting.
