An ethics complaint has been lodged at the Judicial Services Commission by a member of public against Supreme Court Judge Ali Rasheed Hussain.

Judge Rasheed is accused of having 'taxied' people to the airport during official hours without attending a scheduled hearing in the case on revocation of the Constitutional amendment on MPs' loss of seat.

The complainant claims that Judge Rasheed had taxied people to the airport at the time of the hearing in order to spend time outside Court and deliberately delay the hearing.

It says that Judge Rasheed had not given prior notice to the Court that he would be late. It said that Judge Rasheed has only arrived for the hearing after the court had received letters of suspension for Judges HusnuSuood, Dr Azmiralda Zahir and Mahaz Ali Zahir.

It appeals to the JSC to look into the case, claiming that Judge Rasheed had acted in violation of judicial ethics on the day.

While this complaint about Ali Rasheed has been submitted to JSC, the JSC is already looking into cases against Judges Azmiralda and Mahaz, where the two are accused of exerting influence over Criminal Court judges seeking release of Dr Azmiralda's husband, Dr Ismail Latheef, when he had been arrested.

A second case being investigated against the two is allegations that they were present when former Supreme Court Judge HusnuSuood had summoned Assistant Registrar of High Court Hussain Mohamed Haneef and used offensive language to address him.
