The Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology has said that Hulhumale' will now be abbreviated as "HM" on ID cards.
The decision to switch to "HM" was made after the Male' City Council sent a letter to the ministry on February 2, asking for the abbreviation.
Existing ID cards with "Hulhumale'" will remain valid until their expiration date, and there is no issue with using them until then.
