A motion has been submitted to parliament seeking the dismissal of the Deputy Governor of central bank Maldives Monetary Authority Ahmed Imad.
The motion was submitted by ruling People's National Congress (PNC) MP for Dhihdhoo Abdul Latheef.
It states that while former Governor of MMA Ali Hashim had failed to fulfil the legal responsibilities of his post, there is no evidence that Imad had worked to fulfil his legal obligations at the time. It said that his dismissal is being proposed to President Dr Mohamed Muizzu as he has failed to fulfil his legal responsibilities.
Imad was appointed as Deputy Governor of MMA in 2020. Appointments to the post are made by the President, with the advice of the parliament.
Prior to being appointed Deputy Governor, Imad served as Executive Director of MMA's Monetary Policy, Research and Statistics Division. He has worked at the central bank for 25 years. Imad holds a Masters of Science in Economics and Finance from the UK and Bachelor of Business (Economic and Finance) from Malaysia.
He has also served as a Board Member of the Capital Market Development Authority (CMDA).
