People's National Congress (PNC) Deputy President and MP for Mahibadhoo Ahmed Thoriq has voted in favour of the motion submitted by opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) calling for expedition of the ban on entry for Israeli passport holders.

The motion was submitted by MDP's North Galolhu MP Mohamed Ibrahim (Kudu). After debate, the motion was put up for voting. 63 members of PNC voted against the motion.

Those voting in favour include MDP's 12 MPs, independent MP for Addu Meedhoo Abdul Rahman, and Thoriq.

PNC's Huraa constituency MP Anara Naeem and five others in attendance at the time abstained from voting.

In addition to voting against PNC's stand today, Thoriq yesterday criticized government actions in relation to the tourism forex regulations. He called on his party to refrain from criticizing leading businessmen in the Maldives, and urged for the government to hold discussions with industry leaders and reach a consensus.
