Malaysian Police have today reunited the Maldivian man who went missing in the country, Ahmed Usaidh, with his family.
The 24 year old who lives in the Sunway area of Malaysia was reported missing on Sunday. He was found at a hotel, where he said he 'went to relax', and was handed over by the hotel to Police.
Usaidh's father, former Special Majlis member Ibrahim Afeef, told Mihaaru News that Usaid had gone to a hotel 'to relax'. However, another guest at the hotel had raised concerns with the hotel's management of suspicions that Usaidh was planning to do something to them, at which point the hotel handed him over to police.
"Because of this, Usaidh was in police custody. Police then notified us, so we went and received Usaidh. We have met Usaidh, he is in good health," Afeef said.
Afeef said that Usaidh had raised worries of loneliness with his mother and other family members who lived in Sri Lanka as well.
"He even calls me and asks me to come. That he is lonely. I said that I will come, we'll break fast together. And then all this happened," Afeef said.
Afeef said that it was due to loneliness that Usaidh had gone to the Maldives Embassy in Malaysia as well. However, he was unable to meet anyone as he had visited on Sunday, an official holiday.
The family said that Usaidh does not have any known health issues.
