As per the Employment Act, all Muslim employees in both the public and private sectors are entitled to an MVR 3,000 Ramadan allowance before the start of Ramadan.
Ministry of Finance has announced that the Ramadan allowance for government employees must be paid by February 20.
A circular issued to state agencies instructs them to upload the allowance to the public account system by February 18 to ensure timely disbursement.
The allowance will be paid by the office where an employee’s primary job is registered.
However, employees on paid or unpaid leave at the start of Ramadan will not receive the allowance unless they return to work during the month. In such cases, they will receive the allowance amount based on the remaining days of Ramadan.
