Minister of Education Dr Ismail Shafeeu has said that the former Center for Higher Secondary Education (CHSE) building will be used to conduct classes in once again.

In a post on social media Facebook, the Minister said in this 2024 academic year, there are 1700 students studying in Grade 10. As such, he said that students and parents are both facing inconveniences as there is no establishment teaching A'Level education in Male'.

Currently, the government's A'Level school is located in Hulhumale'.

The Minister said that by September, arrangements would be made to commence A'Level lessons in the building which formerly housed CHSE.

He assured that the establishment of this new facility would pose no changes to CHSE being operated by the government in Hulhumale'.

"Once a government A'Level school is opened in Male', the number of A'Level students who commute to Hulhumale' will decrease. The policy of providing education closely will be fulfilled, and government expenses on A'Level education will also lessen," the Minister said.

The Minister said that in the near future, a new building will be constructed in Male' to offer A'level studies.

He has previously told Mihaaru in an interview that the government's policy is to provide education for students close to home. However, he said that the population of Hulhumale' increasing is not a reason to shut down the facility in Male'.

CHSE was previously operated outside of a building located behind Aminiya School on Lily Magu. However, the place was closed down in August last year, with CHSE being moved to a property in Hulhumale'.
