Chief Justice Ahmed Muthasim Adnan has stated that while there are already many challenges in strengthening the judiciary, these challenges are expected to grow in the coming days.

Speaking at the ceremony marking the opening of the judicial year, Chief Justice Muthasim emphasized the need for significant efforts to establish a just, equitable, and fair legal system.

He said that progress in strengthening the judiciary would only be possible if the executive branch, Parliament, independent institutions, agencies, and political leaders worked together to uphold the rule of law.

“I am confident that the rule of law will continue to be maintained wisely and fairly,” he said.

The Chief Justice also called on judges to remain steadfast in ensuring justice, protecting the Constitution, and upholding the rights of the people.

"It is a promise we judges have made to perform our duties and responsibilities honestly and faithfully. The 182 judges currently in Maldives are working tirelessly to fulfill that promise," he stated.

He further noted that beyond deciding cases, the judiciary now plays a crucial role in clarifying legal uncertainties and providing detailed interpretations of the law. This, he said, would make it easier for both the general public and lower court judges to make informed legal decisions.
