Ministry certifies 270 youth to deliver sermon and lead Friday prayers

The government aims to train 1,000 khatibs during its current term.

The Ministry of Islamic Affairs has granted permission to 270 children under 18 to deliver sermons and lead Friday prayers.

The Khatib Training Programme equips participants with the skills to deliver sermons (khutbah), lead prayers, and receive other religious training. In addition to school graduates, students from Grades 10, 11, and 12 are also taking part in these programs.

According to a booklet released today, detailing the ministry's achievements over the past year as part of the current administration completing one year, 270 children have been trained as khatibs and imams through three rounds:

- First round (Male'): 75 children

- Second round (Male'): 177 children

- Third round (Addu City): 18 children

The government aims to train 1,000 khatibs during its current term. Minister of Islamic Affairs, Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed, has expressed confidence in achieving this target.
