In a post on X tonight, Maldives Immigration detailed that several operations were held with Maldives Police Service to identify foreigners involved in prostitution.
The inspections resulted in a total of five female foreigners and two male foreigners, who were their agents, being arrested in connection to five different cases, Immigration said.
These include a Thai woman, a South African woman, another woman from Uganda, a Russian as well as a Bangladeshi woman. The agents were two Bangladeshi men, Immigration said.
The South African, Ugandan and Russian women were the three who were deported.
The rest of the detainees are also in the process of being deported, the agency said.
Since President Dr. Since Muizzu took office, about 5,000 foreigners have been deported in various cases in joint operations conducted by the Immigration and Police to curb the issue of undocumented migrants.
