Elections Commission (EC) on Saturday urged citizens to vote peacefully.

Soon after voting for Parliamentary Elections commenced, the commission tweeted the request from their official Twitter account.

Additionally, EC stated that once voting concludes, each voting centre will announce their results and display the result sheets.

EC President Ahmed Shareef on Friday revealed that the commission is fully prepared for the elections and that ballots have been sent out to all the islands.

For this year's parliamentary elections, there are 264,589 eligible voters for 87 constituencies. A total of 501 ballot boxes have been placed by EC in Maldives and overseas.

Shareef stated that voting commenced on time for all areas except for one polling station in Thilafushi for detainees. He noted that the commission is currently talking with Maldives Correctional Services to resolve the issue.
