Thooba Rasheed, Adhaalath Party's candidate for the constituency of Kelaa, Haa Alif Atoll, in the upcoming parliamentary elections, confirmed his decision to endorse Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)'s candidate Ibrahim Shareef on Wednesday.

AP had previously decided to concede the four constituencies of Hoarafushi, Alifushi, Kendhikolhudhoo, and Faresmaathoda to MDP.

According to Thooba, he made the decision to assure the win for the current administration, as it was uncertain whether the coalition government’s designated MDP and AP candidates would be able to win the parliamentary seat for the constituency.

He said he made his decision after conferring with supporters from the constituency.

While AP has conceded to and endorsed MDP candidates for certain constituencies, MDP in return decided to withdraw their selected candidates and support AP for the constituencies Mahibadhoo and Nilandhoo.

Former President Mohamed Nasheed previously stated that as long as MDP and AP work in solidarity, the two parties could not be beaten politically.

“While Adhaalath Party and MDP is together, God willing, there are no political bodies in the entirety of Maldives that can penetrate our formation and make the government tremble”, said Nasheed.
