Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) launched a social media campaign on March 26, regarding the parliamentary elections taking place on April 6, to make the public aware of possible corruption activities to garner votes.

ACC listed certain actions that count as corruption in a series of tweets, highlighting how candidates are to use monetary transactions in relation to campaigning.

“Candidates or their representatives must not use any money or materials gifted by anonymous donors”, ACC stated in one of their tweets.

The commission further declared that political parties must only use funding from the government, and may not extract money from a state-owned company.

There were reports of bribery presented to the ACC relating to this year’s elections. However, ACC saw no reason to further investigate the matters.

Speaking at a press conference on Monday, Elections Commission (EC)'s President Ahmed Shareef acknowledged that there were several claims of bribery, and that such cases were instructed to be reported to ACC.

More than 300 candidates will be competing for 87 constituencies in the parliamentary elections taking place on Saturday. EC, on Monday, revealed that 99 percent of the preparations were complete.
