Family Protection Authority (FPA), on Thursday, gazetted regulations necessitating the compilation of a sex offenders registry.

The registry will include the names of individuals found guilty of rape, prostitution, blackmail, homosexual relations, operating brothels and 21 other sexual offences.

However, underage children charged with sexual offences will not be mentioned on the registry.

In addition to charges and court-imposed sentences, the registry will contain full names, pictures, physical descriptions, notable features and other basic information of the offender. In the event that an individual is released from detention, the registry will also include such details.

If charges against a defendant are dismissed after the submission of an appeal, the individual's name will be removed from the sex offenders registry. Names will also be omitted from the list if an offender passes away.

Despite not being available to the public, FPA stated that information would be released if requested for official use by the government.

Although a sex offenders registry was previously established, the list only contained information of those who were charged in cases that involved underage children.
