Male’ City Council announced its decision to build a garden park in Lonuziyaaraiy Kolhu, the space adjacent to the Sinamale’ Bridge.

The City Council has been working to clear up the temporary buildings and concrete work a Lonuziyaaraiy Kolhu that was used during the bridge construction. The council revealed that 95 percent of the space has already been cleared, and that the current task is removal of the existing pillars.

Deputy Mayor Shamau Shareef told local media Mihaaru that seating areas will be the only feature in the park apart from the abundance of trees and open spaces.

“This will be the most beautiful place in Male’,” said Shamau.

According to the City Council, the park will be developed in collaboration with other institutions. Shamau added that they aimed to complete development before Islamic month of fasting 'Ramadan' begins in May.

Prior to the construction of Sinamale’ Bridge, Lonuziyaaraiy Kolhu was allocated for helicopter landing by the government. It was also a popular spot for outdoor exercise and family outings.

It is a pledge of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s government to make the congested capital city into a social friendly environment, with more greenery and open spaces.
