Expat robbed of MVR 6,000 in capital Male

Maldives Police Service (MPS) revealed that two unidentified men on a motorcycle robbed a Bangladeshi national, seizing his mobile phone and MVR 6000 in his wallet, in the early hours of Wednesday.

No one has been arrested regarding the crime. However, the police stated that they are working on finding the suspects.

Crime in the capital city Male’ has been increasing as of late. A group of robbers stole MVR 2 million from a van of Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO) in the capital city last Wednesday.

Furthermore, six suspects have been arrested over the theft of MVR 2.3 million near State Bank of India. The perpetrators, who were donning helmets, stole the money from a passer-by after threatening him with a sharp object on March 10. The stolen cash has not been recovered.

In addition, several incidents of theft were reported in reclaimed suburb Hulhumale’ over the last two months.

Police have urged citizens to request for their assistance if a person had to carry a large sum of cash.
