Ministry of Education, on Sunday, officially revoked Alif Naseer's position as anti-bullying ambassador.

While the ministry confirmed the 21-year-old local youtube star was no longer active in his role, information on whether he was countermanded by the ministry or stepped down voluntarily was not provided.

Ministry of Education, on February 13, created a set of rules and regulations to prevent bullying in school environments and designated Aalif as the ambassador of the movement. Following the announcement, social media channels were flooded with accusations against the former ambassador, including claims that he had blackmailed and harassed numerous women.

Minister of Education Dr Aishath Ali tweeted on March 12 that Aalif was appointed as an anti-bullying ambassador on the recommendation of a trusted member of staff and that the background vetting carried out by the ministry's team found no cause for concern.

Dr Aishath further stated that Ministry of Education has always had zero tolerance for sexual harassment which would be upheld at all times. Noting that an untarnished reputation was necessary for the ambassador’s position and profile, Minister Aishath guaranteed to do what was necessary.

Aalif, best known by the moniker 'Aal Naseer' confirmed allegations regarding him via a tweet he posted in February, admitting that mistakes were made and that he is learning from them. Moreover, Aalif expressed that he would not repeat his actions, and stating his wish to personally apologise to those he had wronged.

Several companies including Lotus Fihaara, Ooredoo and Baiskoafu, previously affiliated with Aalif, rescinded their association with him following serious statements against him by various individuals.
