Earth Hour Maldives is organising a march, in association with Ministry of Education and Ministry of Environment, in all inhabited islands from 1600 to 1800 hours on March 30.

Students, parents, government authorities, non-profit organizations and businesses will take part in the march to raise awareness on environmental issues.

The preparations for the march, such as making banners and messages, will commence in schools on March 29.

In addition to the march, Earth Hour Maldives is hosting a 'Make your own bag' event on the same day.

This event, held with the cooperation of Maldives Women's Association, is part of the campaign to reduce the use of single-use plastic bags in Maldives, and will continue throughout the year in all parts of the country.

Moreover, a T-shirt printing event will be initiated on March 29, where the earth hour logo of this year's theme will be printed on T-shirts and sold in various stalls all over capital Male'.

However, the most eye-catching event of earth hour celebrations would be the main switch-off event, organised by the country team of Earth Hour Maldives. This year's switch-off event will be hosted in Kulhudhuffushi, Haa Dhaalu Atoll, from 2030 to 2130 hours.

An event related to the theme will be held in Male' Ekuveni Track at the same time.

A panel discussion was hosted in Maldives National University on Friday, regarding the environmental issues faced by Maldives, highlighted in the 'Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC)'s Global Warming 1.5 degrees Celsius - Special Report'.

Earth Hour Maldives urge all Maldivians to take part in the events, and welcomes NGOs and individuals to host their own events to raise awareness on environmental issues. Details of the programmes held in relation to earth hour this year can be viewed on [email protected], and their Facebook page.
