Six motorcycles torched in capital Male

Six motorcycles, in the early hours of Thursday morning, were torched in capital Male'.

Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) reported that the blaze near Ihsaan Fihaara, a store in Maafannu ward, was extinguished by Fire and Rescue around 0400 hours.

No one was harmed in the incident.

MNDF stated that six motorcycles were burnt beyond use and two more were significantly damaged. The piping in the garage of M. Sabudhelige, the house near which the vehicles were parked, was also damaged.

Police said the matter is still being investigated.

Crimes such as thievery, as of late, is increasing in the capital. MVR 2 million was stolen from a van of Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company Ltd (MIFCO) on Wednesday afternoon. The perpetrators with covered faces broke the glass of the van and looted the cash. Police have not revealed if any arrests were made regarding the theft.

On March 10, men wearing helmets stole over MVR 2 million from an Indian man near the State Bank of India (SBI). Six men were arrested concerning the crime, but the money is yet to be recovered.
