Two MNDF officers suspended over MMPRC scandal

Two officers of Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) were suspended in connection with the information revealed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC)'s report concerning the corruption case of Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC).

In response to a question posed by local media Mihaaru, MNDF spokesperson Captain Ibrahim Azeem stated that Major Ibrahim Naveen Zubair and Sergeant Ismail Shakeeb were placed under temporary suspension due to ongoing investigations into information revealed by ACC's report.

Chief of Defence Force Abdullah Shamal previously guaranteed that steps would be taken against Major Naveen upon his return to Maldives after completion of a workshop. SOF Pvt Ltd, the company implicated in the embezzlement of MVR 1.4 billion from MMPRC, had transferred USD 100,000 to Major Naveen.

Also suspended for implication in the graft scandal were Minister of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment Ahmed Mahloof, State Minister of Planning and Infrastructure Akram Kamaluddin, and Chairman of Male' Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC) Ahmed Mausoom.
