Attorney and Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)'s parliamentary candidate for the constituency of Thulhaadhoo, Hisaan Hussain, on Wednesday, denied allegations of abusing a group of students.

Hisaan and former President Mohamed Nasheed dismissed the accusations as anti-campaign material fabricated by Ibrahim Afeef, Hisaan's rival contestant, who represents the Maldives Reform Movement (MRM).

According to Hisaan, Anas Ahmed, a native of Thulhaadhoo, Baa Atoll, made the allegations in a letter he sent to President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on Tuesday. Anas is known to be involved in campaign activities for Afeef.

Hisaan's campaign office revealed that Anas is also Afeef's nephew and urged Maldives Police Service to investigate the matter.

In the letter, Anas claimed that five individuals, including himself and two minors, faced abuse by Hisaan while they were living in her house during their school years. The alleged abusive acts included cutting off electricity and water supply to their room and then demanding that they bathe using water from public taps.

Additionally, Anas alleged that Hisaan threw a 6x4-inch concrete brick through a small window and into the room where the group was accommodated. Anas also claimed that the group had to sleep in darkness for a period of 15 days.

Moreover, Anas stated that Hisaan's father and former Thulhaadhoo MP, Hussain Yoosuf, was aware of the incident and had advised Hisaan against the abuse. Anas stated that the group was then kicked out of the house.

Anas declared that he was prepared to testify against Hisaan and that he had reported the case to the police.
