President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih revealed that a picnic island for recreational purposes of locals will be allocated in the vicinity of capital city, in the near future.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the campaign hub for MDP Parliamentary representative for the constituency of North Galolhu, Eva Abdulla, President Solih stated that plans to convert Male’ into a socially friendly environment will commence soon.

He added that various facilities will be available from the picnic island.

The government is yet to disclose the location of the picnic island.

Islands previously popular among locals for recreational purposes surrounding the district of Male’ were leased for tourism during the presidency of Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.

Harsh criticism from the public was aimed at the state, particularly when islands like Kuda Bandos and Feydhoo Finolhu were allocated for resort development.

Hence, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has pledged to designate islands dedicated for recreational use by locals, within the first 100 days of his term in office.
