Indian Minister Swaraj pays courtesy call on President Solih

India's Minister of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj paid a courtesy call on President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, at the President’s Office, on Monday.

According to the President's Office, the minister and president remarked that bilateral relations between the two countries are on a positive trajectory and further pledged to continue working together on issues of mutual concern and benefit.

Minister Swaraj also called on the Speaker of Parliament Qasim Ibrahim, and paid a visit to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH), the state-run hospital developed by Indian aid. She dedicated the renovation of IGMH to the people of Maldives.

Minister Swaraj departed to her home country on Monday, following the conclusion of her two-day official visit.

During the visit, three agreements were signed;

- Agreement on Exemption from Visa Requirement for Holders of Diplomatic and Official Passports.

- Memorandum of Understanding regarding Indian Grant Assistance for Implementation of High Impact Community Development Projects through Local Bodies.

- Memorandum of Understanding on collaboration in the field of energy efficiency and renewable energy.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid and Minister Swaraj also chaired a joint ministerial meeting between the Maldivian Cabinet and Indian External Affairs Ministry, during which discussions were held on ways to enhance bilateral cooperation on a spectrum of subjects such as consular issues, capacity development, economic development, health development, investment and trade.
