The Madaveli Council, on Tuesday, began accepting applications for 22 housing units in Madaveli, Gaafu Dhaal Atoll.
Madaveli Council Member Azam Mohamed stated that the council received 125 forms for the housing units constructed on the south side of the island, within 15 minutes of starting the process.
“The island is overcrowded. There are 238 families searching for housing, with nowhere to go,” said Azam.
The council’s announcement declared that the acceptance of completed forms will continue until March 31, and that priority would be given to those who do not have a property under their name, or their spouse’s.
Those receiving housing units must pay a fee of MVR 19,000 as down payment, to be paid within a 20-year period at a rate of MVR 2,500 per month.
