Vice President of Maldives Faisal Naseem, on Wednesday, inaugurated the Internationale Tourismus-Börse (ITB) Berlin Fair at Messe Berlin for local participants.

After the inaugural ceremony, Vice President Faisal visited the Maldivian Exhibits which showcased unique qualities of the local tourism industry, and the wide variety of services it offered.

Vice President Naseem also attended the 'Maldivian Night', held at the Grant Hyatt Berlin for representatives of Maldives participating in the ITB fair.

'Maldivian Night', which was organised by the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Company (MMPRC), involved several musical and cultural performances that demonstrated the festive spirit, dynamism and variety that Maldivian culture and traditions are known for.

During the event, the Vice President elaborated the government’s vision of ensuring the sustainable progress of the economy and the tourism industry. Vice President Faisal also highlighted that this progress, whilst maintaining world-renowned service quality should not conflict with the environment or cultural heritage of Maldives.

Other attendees of 'Maldivian Night' included local representatives, foreign delegates, as well as international media.

On the sidelines of the ITB fair, Minister of Tourism of Sri Lanka John Anthony Emmanuel Amaratunga paid a courtesy call on the Vice President.

During the meeting, both Minister Amaratunga and Vice President Faisal reiterated their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties and ensuring that Maldives and Sri Lanka continued their constructive international engagement on global issues.

ITB Berlin is a business to business platform which provides an opportunity to meet and engage with industry partners.

This year’s ITB Berlin Fair is attended by over 270 representatives from 105 companies which cater to all types of tourism activities in Maldives.

In addition to the Vice President, the Maldivian delegation includes Minister of Tourism Ali Waheed and MMPRC's Managing Director Mohamed Thoyyib.
