Mohamed Riyaz was appointed as the Assistant Commissioner of Police on Tuesday.

Acting Commissioner of Police Mohamed Hameed, presented the letter of appointment of Riyaz who was recently reinstated as Chief Superintendent of Police.

While the Maldives Police Services’ disciplinary board decided to dismiss Riyaz in September 2017, he was reinstated after a Civil Court ruling issued in December 2018.

The newly appointed Assistant Commissioner of Police has been involved in investigating several high profile cases that emerged in recent years and has represented the police in during numerous legal proceedings.

Riyaz also completed a Masters in Criminal Law and Criminal Justice from the University of Birmingham, UK.

Chief Superintendent of Police Abdulla Ahmed, was also appointed as the Assistant Commissioner of Police on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Inspector of Police Yoonus Sobah was appointed as the new Chief Superintendent of Police.

In addition to police officials, the court has ordered the reinstation of several senior army officers who were dismissed during the presidency of Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.
