The Ministry of Economic Development issued an announcement inviting the public to present opinions regarding the Consumer Protection Bill on Monday.

Comments and opinions regarding the bill can be sent via email to the Economic Ministry until March 11.

According to the statement, the bill defines consumer rights, stipulates the conditions which must be fulfilled by a marketed product or service and establishes the guidelines according to which sellers and service providers must operate.

The Consumer Protection Bill also proposes a procedure that enables cases to be settled outside of courts.

Furthermore, the bill stipulates the appointment of a consumer ombudsman, an independent official tasked with reaching decisions regarding disputes between individuals and companies. The mandate and responsibilities of the consumer ombudsman are also outlined in the bill.

Although a consumer protection law has been in existence for several years, it will be dissolved in the event the new Consumer Protection Bill is passed.
