Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid, on Saturday called on the United Arab Emirates (UAE)'s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
During the meeting held in Abu Dhabi, Minister Shahid congratulated the leadership of Minister Abdullah during his chairmanship of the 46th Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), which concluded on Saturday.
The two ministers also discussed a range of issues, from increasing the frequency of bilateral contacts, cooperation in development projects and working together within the auspices of international organizations such as the United Nations and the OIC.
Additionally, Minister Shahid met with the Secretary General of OIC Dr Yousef bin Ahmad Al-Othaimeen at the sidelines of the meeting. Minister Shahid iterated to the Secretary General about Maldives' commitment to the organization’s goals and objectives and assured him of Maldives' full participation in the activities of the OIC.
The Foreign Minister further met with a number of bilateral partners during the Council of Foreign Ministers, including his counterparts from Palestine, India, Bangladesh, Romania, Jordan, Kuwait, Kosovo, Afghanistan, the Saudi Arabian Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Egypt, and delegations from Iraq and Serbia.
The 46th Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers concluded on Saturday with the adoption of the Abu Dhabi Declaration and a number of resolutions. The meeting is held annually and is a gathering of foreign ministers of the Member States of the OIC.
The 47th Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers is due to be held in Niger in 2020.
Following the conclusion of his visit to Abu Dhabi, Minister Shahid and his delegation return on Sunday.
