The government, on Wednesday, formally released a statement expressing concern regarding the recent escalation of tensions between India and Pakistan.

Tensions between the two bordering nations mounted following the terrorist attack on the personnel of India's Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in Pulwama, State of Jammu and Kashmir on February 14.

Maldives emphasized the importance of resolving the crisis as swiftly as possible through diplomacy and dialogue. The statement urged both India and Pakistan to exercise restraint in order to maintain the stability and security of the region.

Despite the calls for a peaceful resolution, the statement reiterated Maldives' firm condemnation of all forms of terrorism, including cross-border terrorism, and underlined the urgency of countries taking meaningful action against terrorist groups operating within their territory.

The statement affirms that Maldives " ... is fully committed to the fight against terrorism and will continue to work closely with the international community, especially with its South Asian neighbours, in eliminating this global menace".
