Maldives National University (MNU) is hosting a seminar titled “Resilient Reefs of Maldives”, focusing on seagrass protection in Maldives, on February 28, 2019.
The seminar, which is held in association with Blue Marine Foundation and Maldives Underwater Initiative (MUI), will take place in the MNU Central Auditorium, Rah’dhebai Hingun from 1600 to 1730 hours.
Senior Research Scientist Dr Paul York and Head Marine Biologist Natasha Prokop will share their expertise in the seminar, speaking about their survey results on seagrass ecosystems.
The seminar will highlight the importance of maintaining healthy seagrass across Maldives. Additionally, the seminar will also draw attention to the lack of protection for seagrass ecosystems, as well as the crisis of their removal.
Moreover, a social media campaign will be launched in order to raise awareness on the issue, displaying the resorts and islands that pledge to protect seagrass beds.
The seminar is open to MNU students and staff, partner organisations of the campaign, and the general public.
