Former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom met the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Dr Mahathir Bin Mohamed, as a representative of incumbent President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
Gayoom made some proposals to the Malaysian PM on behalf of President Solih, including a request to ease the challenges in obtaining visas for Maldivians studying in Malaysia.
He also extended President Solih's invitation for the prime minister to visit Maldives, which the latter accepted.
According to Maumoon Reform Movement (MRM), the prime minister discussed the similar issues in the political arena faced by both Malaysia and Maldives, during the meeting.
Gayoom spoke of the reform movements carried out by the new coalition government of Maldives. The two leaders also discussed the issues of environment protection and climate change, according to MRM.
