Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid extended greetings to the government of Egypt on the occasion of the 50 year anniversary of diplomatic relations between Maldives and Egypt.

In his felicitations to Minister of Foreign Affairs of Egypt, Sameh Shoukry, Minister Shahid said that he was delighted to note that the relationship between Maldives and Egypt have strengthened.

The Foreign Minister stated that he was confident that existing bilateral, economic and cultural ties between Egypt will be further enhanced in the coming years through close cooperation both bilaterally and in multilateral fora, for the mutual benefit of the two countries.

“On behalf of the Government and the people of Maldives, I would like to take this opportunity to express our heartfelt appreciation to the Government and the people of the Arab Republic of Egypt, for the generous support and assistance extended towards the socio-economic and human resource development of the Maldives since the establishment of diplomatic relations between our two countries", said Minister Shahid.

Maldives established diplomatic relations with Egypt on February 12, 1969.
